PLAYER GUIDES | TROUBLESHOOTING BASICS AND WALKABOUT 101

  • We’ve all hit our ball into a sand trap before, and the same thing can happen with game bugs. Luckily, this handy guide is here to help get you back to golfing! Please review the following questions and steps.

Have you tried restarting your headset device?

    • Sometimes trying both a Hard Restart (pressing the power button down for about 10-15 seconds, and waiting 30 seconds to turn the device back on) and a Soft Restart (pressing the power button down for a few seconds and then hitting the ‘Restart’ button on the screen popup menu) can help.

Have you tried manually updating the Walkabout game application?

    • Clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner can prompt an ‘Update’ menu tab to populate when there’s an update waiting.

Have you tried manually updating your headset OS?

    • Navigate to your System settings, then select ‘Software Update’ from the menu. While headsets should automatically update, sometimes a manual update is needed.

Have you tried an uninstall/reinstall of the Walkabout app?

    • Note: Our game utilizes an external Save Sync on our player data. We are not tied in with platform-specific Cloud services, so users may get a warning popup about potentially losing data upon an uninstall of our game app. Users should not lose their data upon an uninstall/reinstall.

Have you tried turning Airplane mode ON, disconnecting from Wi-Fi, and reconnecting the device to internet by turning Airplane mode OFF?

If you performed all of these steps without any success, please review our FAQ sections below. If you’re not able to find a solution to your problem please contact our support team.

PLEASE NOTE: Some bugs you encounter in-game may be related to larger platform OS bugs, and you may experience a window of technical difficulty until the issue is resolved by the platform you play on, such as Meta for Quest issues.

  • Welcome to Walkabout! We’re so glad you’re here to golf with us.

Walkabout: General Game FAQ

  • Walkabout Mini Golf is available on Quest (1, 2, 3, Pro), Rift, PSVR2, Pico, Viveport, and iOS!

Please see the Quest 1 Sunset section for more information around our Quest 1 support.

  • Match Types

    • Quick Match: Quick Match will pair you and one other player in a Front or Back 9 of a randomly chosen base game course. These are designed to be rapid-fire games.

*No Quick Match feature available in Pocket Edition

    • Private Room: Up to 8 players can all join a Private Room with a unique room name, where the room host (whoever creates the room first) is able to choose different courses and Game Mode types for your round(s).

    Game Mode Types

    • Standard Match
You enter a round of standard Walkabout scoring and match play, where strokes on each hole are added together and the lowest score wins

    • Match Play
The player with the lowest score on a hole gets the point. Players can tie for points.

    • Race Mode
Players play simultaneously under a timer. Whoever completes the final hole first wins, strokes don't matter

    • Practice Mode
This mode has no scoring, and allows users to play holes in any order with an undo option for strokes.

    • Custom Game Mode
This mode allows users to further customize a round by customizing holes, turn order, and scoring.

If you're having issues with multiplayer, we suggest following the Troubleshooting 101 guide above. Most multiplayer issues can be resolved to users being on different versions of the game and not properly updating.

  • Our team introduced Slingshots into Walkabout in August 2024! Users can find and play Slingshots at our Driving Range, near the Welcome Island Shack.

  • Hello! Our team has been looking into our save system to address issues with lost scores/collectibles.

If you’re encountering these issues, review these tips and tricks to help troubleshoot:

    • Sometimes upon a reinstall a new profile will be auto generated at the Welcome Island Shack. This can give the impression that settings and scores have reverted; we recommend checking to ensure you are on the correct in-game profile by navigating to your ‘Profile’ tab at the Shack.

    • Try creating a new in-game profile and then toggle between that profile and the primary profile as a “refresh”.

    • Quickly entering and exiting a course can sometimes cause a save sync to trigger, helping to load your data in.

    • Give it some time. Sometimes it can take upwards of 10-15 minutes for assets/scores/etc to load in, depending on the device and network.

If you’re continuing to have issues with data loss after troubleshooting, please let our team know. We cannot replace lost scores, however we are able to restore some collectibles (lost balls and putters) and are working on expanding the amount of course collectibles we can restore.

We thank you for your patience with our team as we do a deeper dive to our save system and make improvements

  • Often when we release an update, users will report that they cannot get past one of the intro splash screens to launch the game properly. If this happens to you, we recommend you check to see if you have an update waiting for you. Updating the app directly often does the trick; if it doesn't, then we recommend you uninstall and reinstall the game to make sure it installs properly onto your device.

Users can check if any game application is pending an update by clicking on the upper right-hand three dots on the game app and clicking the ‘Update’ menu listing if it appears. We also recommend restarting your headset device just in case, as this will be a way to kick an update into place even if it does not appear on the user menu.

The time it takes to update a build may vary depending on device memory and storage space, age and wear-and-tear of device, etc. Our team is aware that it can take awhile to update our game app, so we’re looking into ways to customize DLC downloads and to trim overall download times. Please also note that we can't account for network speed, which influences the download times users feel. For now, we thank you for your patience.

  • Players will have access to the base game courses and any owned DLC while offline. Be aware that users cannot purchase DLC or Avatar Packs in-game while offline.

  • Accessibility is important to our team, and we continue to work towards new features and settings that can make Walkabout fun for everyone.

    Settings

    • Users can find a specific ‘Accessibility’ settings tab at the Welcome Island Shack settings menu and the course scorecard settings, which will allow users to add a magnifying glass, increase the scale of their watch display, and add controller smoothing.

    Stationary Play Tips and Tricks

    • Players can enjoy Walkabout seated and stationary without compromising on gameplay experience. We recommend stationary players to utilize our ‘Lock Ball’ setting so that it’s easier to align with the ball. This setting can be found under our ‘Movement’ settings tab.

    • While our ‘Auto Teleport’ setting was designed with our "Grip-to-putter" attachment players in mind, this feature can be useful for stationary players who want minimal input with manually moving themselves and wish to auto progress to the next ball position. This setting can be found under our ‘Movement’ settings tab.

    • Our Lost Balls are designed to be as friendly to our stationary players as possible, and should be collectible from a seated position using smooth locomotion. That said, for users who want more of an edge, we recommend flying around the course to hunt for them.

    • Utilizing our 'Grip to Putt' feature can greatly help players who have shaky hands and are prone to accidentally tapping the ball. This setting will only make the putter head active if the trigger button is pressed down.

    Course FX Toggles

    • El Dorado (Hard Course): Lightning Toggle (Visual-only on/off)

    • Widow’s Walkabout: Spiders Toggle (Turn spiders on/off)

  • Our scorecards are in UTC to give players across the world a unified in-game clock. If players would like to reference their local time, slightly lift whichever hand is holding the controller and tilt your wrist to view your virtual watch, the way one would with a real watch. Your watch will not only have your local time, it will also display the hole number you’re on, stroke count, par count, and the round.

  • Walkabout is available in the following languages:

    • English

    • French

    • Spanish

    • German

    • Chinese

    • Japanese

    • Korean

Our team is hopeful to expand to more languages in the future.

    • DLC Pricing
Our DLC is currently priced at $3.99 (USD). Please note: DLC price may vary by regional currency type.
The storefronts that we distribute to manage the processing of payments and manage the conversion of our set USD price to the local currency equivalent.

    • Avatar Packs
Our Avatar packs are priced at $1.99 (USD).

    • Refunds
Mighty Coconut cannot process refunds, as we do not manage the point of payment nor the transfer of products. Users who want a refund for the game/specific DLC must contact the storefront that they purchased the game through.

    • Sales and “Whole in One” Bundle Deals
Our “Whole in One” bundle deals do not include access to any future DLC releases, only the DLC up to the last point the bundle was updated. Please read bundle information carefully before purchase. Storefronts update the bundles on different timelines due to varying approval process by-platform.

  • Walkabout Mini Golf will make any calls for beta tester sign-ups on our Discord server and other social platforms. We do not accept sign-ups on a rolling basis.

  • Crossplay is available for all devices that Walkabout is available on, including Pocket Edition! For PSVR2 users crossplay must be toggled ON at the Welcome Island Shack settings. If this is toggled OFF you will be locked into Quick Match and Private Room games for your device platform exclusively.

We do not support Cross Buying across platforms. We do not support synced profiles / Cross-Saves across platforms (Example: Quest 2 App to SteamVR App), as each platform profile is different. Users can utilize different devices across the same platform and sync their information (Example: Quest 2 to Quest 3) as your profile information will be retained per the platform.

  • We recommend users with tracking issues to try our ‘Grip to Putt’ option! Toggling this ON means that users will need to press and hold down the ‘Trigger’ button on their controllers to activate the putter head and physically putt the ball.

Try these other tips and tricks to help clear up any tracking issues:

    • Ensure that your gameplay space is bright. Some specific lights, such as fairy lights or Christmas lights, can cause issues for the headset’s camera and present tracking issues. Highly reflective items such as windows can cause glare that also disrupts tracking.

    • The controller grip style can vary depending on the person, and some people may find they inadvertently cover up some internal controller sensors that help with tracking. Try out different grip styles.

    • On the topic of controllers, ensure that your controller battery life is good. Sometimes when a battery is running low it can cause tracking issues.

    • Because Walkabout Mini Golf only utilizes one controller, the secondary controller can sometimes cause issues for tracking. We recommend you place your unused controller well outside your Guardian Boundary or outside the room you’re playing in. Some users will just not wake up the unused controller upon device use (Quest), or they will remove the batteries out of the unused controller.

    • On the topic of Guardian Boundaries, try completely resetting your boundary and recreating it to see if this helps with tracking issues.

    • Give your headset and controller(s) a good clean. Sometimes grime, dust, and other buildup can block cameras or sensors.

  • While we try our best to avoid it, bugs happen. It's important to our team that we be aware of them when they occur so we can maintain the quality of our game and fix what we can, when we can. For any larger bug breaks we make update posts on our Discord server and do our best to be transparent and communicative with the community.

Our Discord server has a Bug Report forum and text channel, as well as a Feedback and Requests text channel.

Note: While our Coconut team does not respond to our Feedback channel to avoid the appearance of bias toward particular ideas/players, we do review the messages there and track popular requests.

Walkabout: Device-Specific FAQs and Support

Our team is always trying to expand our support resources for players, and to stay up to date with the latest platform changes, OS updates and more across all of the platforms we support. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding if there are gaps or bugs, and we will continue to work to make gameplay as smooth and fun as possible!

  • Quest 1 Sunset

    • Our Quest 1 devices do not support DLC beyond Journey to the Center of the Earth, and as of December 2023 Quest 1 users have been locked into multiplayer with other Quest 1 devices only. This is due to Oculus SDK updates that make it technically impossible to support the device beyond what we have done. Read about it here: https://www.mightycoconut.com/quest1

Quest App Sharing - Multiplayer Issues

    • Quest App Sharing has recently been updated to allow DLC access across accounts, however there can still persist some issues with it. We recommend users in this boat to create a new in-game Walkabout profile for the Secondary account to use, and then having the Primary account signed into both headsets. This will allow both of you to launch and play the game simultaneously.

Quest Microphone and Storage Permissions - Game Crash

    • Particularly for Quest users, it’s important to verify that your Microphone settings are enabled in your Game App Permissions on the device setting side. If users do not wish to utilize our in-game microphone, they can toggle their Mute box ON from the scorecard or at the Welcome Island Shack.

  • Rift - Airlink VS Virtual Desktop

    • Walkabout Mini Golf does not support Virtual Desktop as an official method of streaming our game. While users may find successful playtime sessions using this third party app, we cannot guarantee the quality of game nor can we guarantee that users will not encounter any bugged behavior due to streaming avenue choice.

    • We recommend our Rift users utilize either a physical cable link to their PC or use Airlinking to wirelessly connect the headset device to the computer.

    Rift - Update not appearing

    • Users who are having issues with crashing on launch or with not having game updates appear may be able to circumvent the issue by temporarily swapping over to the Public Test channel, and then back to your regular live channel. To find this, open the Oculus app on your PC. Select Settings in the left menu, then select the Beta tab. Select the toggle next to the Public Test Channel to enroll. To leave the channel and return to the standard Live channel, just hit this toggle button again. We’ve found users are able to trigger updates this way.

  • DLC Access Issues

    • Try restoring your licenses for Walkabout if you encounter bugs around DLC ownership/access.
Navigate to your Settings, then select ‘Users/Accounts’, then ‘Other’. Select ‘Restore Licenses’.

  • SteamVR users have access to a wider range of troubleshooting, and consequently a larger range of bugs due to the varying differences in PC configurations, user setups, etc.

    PC-Specific ‘Troubleshooting Basics’

In addition to the Troubleshooting 101 - Basic Debugging steps listed earlier in the doc, consider the following when troubleshooting for PCVR.

    • Have you restarted and updated your computer device?

    • Have you ensured that your cards and drivers are up to date?

    • Have you validated your DLCs?

    Performance and Visual Toggles

    • For performance issues on SteamVR, try toggling ‘Supersampling' OFF in settings. You can also adjust the Custom Resolution Multiplier to be lower. Please also check your GPU to ensure you’re pulling from the correct graphics card for PC setups.

    • We’d also recommend ensuring your VR view window is the primary on your computer screen; having this view centered can help alleviate issues with field of view, etc.

    • We recommend utilizing Steam Link to stream Walkabout, if you play via SteamVR. We do not officially support Virtual Desktop as a streaming method and users may find performance and gameplay issues when utilizing this third party vendor for streaming.

    Family Sharing - DLC

    • A guest may use a lender’s DLC, but only if the guest does not own the base game. If the guest owns Walkabout and is using Family Sharing with a lender who owns Walkabout DLC, the guest will not be able to access them.

    • Please note that users utilizing Family Sharing cannot simultaneously launch the same game.

    Achievements

    • Our team knows that our SteamVR players have been wanting earnable Steam Achievements to be tied to our game. Currently, we do not have anything hooked up for this, but we have it on our radar and general roadmap.

Virtual Desktop VS Steam Link, Air Link

    • We do not officially support Virtual Desktop as an official method of streaming the Walkabout game, as it is a third party application. Therefore users who choose to stream the game through this avenue may find they’ll encounter gameplay bugs. We recommend our Steam users utilize Steam Link if possible, or to utilize similar stream methods such as Air Link or a trusty IRL cable connection.
