Hey everyone,
Our team wanted to follow up on the spike of putter glitching reports we've received since our Viva Las Elvis course release.
Originally, there had been updates with Meta OS v69 to reduce visual latency, which adjusted performance parameters for apps on Quest. Our team developed some in-game fixes in response to putter hitching reports with this update and opened a public test channel to receive feedback before applying a fix with the release of our 8-Bit Lair course in October. The release of OS v71 in November appeared to mitigate the reported latency issues and we saw a decrease in reports.
Currently, Meta's OS v72 release in January introduced new bugs around hand tracking and player boundaries, both of which can affect gameplay in Walkabout Mini Golf, and was closely timed with the release of our Viva Las Elvis course.
Our team is actively looking into these bug reports. We are working internally to develop and test fixes for Walkabout, and are in conversations with Meta to investigate the root issue. We thank you for your patience as we troubleshoot.
If you have bugs you would like to report relative to putter glitching, email them to wmgsupport@mightycoconut.com and make the subject line "Putter Glitching Report" so we can properly sort through them. Kindly refrain from double reports, as this disrupts our tracking and can make it more difficult to pull accurate data.
Please note:
1) When not utilizing our grip-to-putt setting, the putter head will become inactive when a player isn't looking at their ball; this is put in place to help avoid accidental putts. We have seen some tracking reports that are related to this feature.
2) The putter glitching that some users are reporting is very similar to general tracking issues. Some players have had success through troubleshooting, and we strongly encourage affected players to go through basic troubleshooting such as:
Ensuring you're in a bright-lit play space. Reflective surfaces (mirrors, windows) and "twinkly" lights (fairy lights, Christmas lights) can affect and distort headset tracking
Double-checking you are not inadvertently covering any controller or headset tracking sensors with long clothing, hair, or improper grip
Trying base level troubleshooting such as: restarting your device, cleaning the headset lenses and sensors, checking controller battery life, and checking that controllers are properly synced
Going through headset settings to disable hand tracking, clearing boundary history and re-making a guardian boundary, and ensuring that "Lay Down" mode is disabled if playing in Walkabout Mini Golf
If you are emailing in a formal bug report around the putter glitching, be descriptive— our team will need to know which device you're using (Quest 2, Quest 3, etc.) and all troubleshooting steps taken to alleviate the issue. Details provided will help our development team investigate further. As noted above, please keep your reports to a single ticket.
We truly appreciate our user feedback and we take these reports seriously.
