Meta Putter Glitching - v74 Update
Hey there,
Our team wanted to share an update regarding the putter glitching that some players have been reporting.
Previously, Meta's OS v72 release in January introduced new bugs around hand tracking and player boundaries, both of which can affect gameplay in Walkabout Mini Golf. We saw similar issues and reports correlating with v68 and v69 OS rollouts in 2024. Our team has been working through player reports and internal testing/fix iterations while working with Meta to investigate the root of the issue.
Currently, Meta OS v74 has some promising improvements for Quest 2 performance and tracking; Meta is currently looking into further regression fixes and improvements for Quest 3 devices from prior OS versions. Our team is still investigating if these OS versions have been the ultimate root of the cause, but we're hopeful for improvements moving forward.
If you've been encountering issues with hitching, we recommend updating your device to the latest OS— note that OS updates roll out in waves, and you may not immediately see an update option. You can report back to us and/or official Meta support channels with issues on the latest OS.
Please note: The putter glitching that some users are reporting can be very similar to general tracking issues. Some players have had success troubleshooting, and we strongly encourage affected players to go through troubleshooting steps such as:
Ensuring you're in a bright-lit play space. Reflective surfaces (mirrors, windows) and "twinkly" lights (fairy lights, Christmas lights) can affect and distort headset tracking
Double-checking you are not inadvertently covering any controller or headset tracking sensors with long clothing, hair, or improper grip
Trying base level troubleshooting such as: restarting your device, cleaning the headset lenses and sensors, checking controller battery life, and checking that controllers are properly synced
Going through headset settings to disable hand tracking, clearing boundary history and re-making a guardian boundary, and ensuring that the experimental-tab setting "Lay Down" mode is disabled while playing in Walkabout Mini Golf
Additionally, there are some upcoming fixes in our next 5.7 update that should help even more, but the OS update should take care of most of the issues players have reported.
